Every Team Member Gets a Big Brother: Inside the Leadership Model at Paletta Consulting, Inc.

Most companies promise “support.” At Paletta Consulting, Inc., we put it more specifically. Our mission says every employee will have a big brother. To us, that means someone who knows your goals, checks in on how you’re really doing, and helps you get where you’re trying to go.

That idea comes straight from our President and CEO, Thomas Watson, who leads with what he calls a “big brother” mentality. Here’s what that looks like in practice, and why we built our Chicago-based sales firm around it.

What “Big Brother” Means Here

A big brother isn’t a boss who hands out tasks and disappears. It’s someone a little further down the road who’s already made some of the mistakes you’re about to make and would rather help you avoid them than watch you struggle.

At Paletta Consulting, Inc., that shows up in three areas we care about: a team member’s mental, financial, and work well-being. Each one matters, because nobody does their best work when one of them is falling apart.

Mental Well-Being

Starting a new career is a lot to handle. A big brother notices when someone is having a rough week and makes time to talk it through, instead of waiting for it to show up in their results. That kind of attention keeps people steady long enough to grow.

Financial Well-Being

Many of the people who join us are early in their careers and building their financial habits for the first time. Caring about someone’s financial well-being means paying attention to the goals they’re working toward outside of work, not just the ones on the board at the office.

Work Well-Being

This is the hands-on part. Through training, mentorship, and leadership development, our team members build skills they can use for the rest of their careers: communication, confidence, and the ability to lead others. Our sales team development approach is built around exactly that.

Why Thomas Built Paletta Consulting, Inc. This Way

We shared the story behind our name in our first post. The short version of why the company exists: Thomas started Paletta Consulting, Inc. to open more doors for motivated, entry-level people around Chicago, with family values and giving back built in from the start.

That’s why our mission reads the way it does: every employee should have a big brother, enjoy the office culture, develop lifelong skills, and have the opportunity to achieve lifelong goals. We describe what drives it in three words: selflessness, grit, and care.

Leaders Who Started Where You Are

A big brother only works if they’ve been in your shoes. Paletta Consulting, Inc. offers organic, merit-based advancement, so people grow into leadership based on performance, not tenure.

You can see it on our own team page. Angel, our Corporate Recruiter, started as a salesperson before becoming the face of our HR and recruiting department. The people helping new team members grow have done the job themselves, and they remember what the first few weeks felt like.

The Values Behind It

Our core values are Grit, Honesty, Ambition, Charitable, Determination, and Student Mentality. The big brother model is the heart of Paletta Consulting, Inc. culture, where those values become something you can feel day to day: honesty in the feedback you get, a student mentality in how leaders keep learning, and a charitable mindset in how much time they’re willing to give.

What to Ask About in Your Interview

If you’re considering a role with us, ask about it directly. Who would be your mentor? How often would you meet? What did their first few months look like? A company built around mentorship should answer those questions easily, and we’d much rather you ask than guess.
